When I design and wonder what the point is I think of someone having a bad time in their life. Maybe they are sad and they wake up and put on something I have made and it makes them feel just a bit better. So in that sense fashion is a little help in the life of a person. But only a little.

Actually I didn't make the claim that Ruby follows the principle of least surprise. Someone felt the design of Ruby follows that philosophy so they started saying that. I didn't bring that up actually.

Acting isn't for me. I don't like being told what to do. I'm more interested in set design more visually driven.

Looking back video game design seems a natural fit although there was no such thing when I was growing up. I built a Tic-Tac-Toe playing machine in my teens which went up in smoke on the night it was scheduled to go to a science fair.

My background is in hardware design. I found hardware work to be a welcome change from thousands of hours of programming and that led to the designs you mentioned.

2 Amazing

4 Anniversary

  • 1. On this important anniversary we must remember that while we have come a long way in eliminating barriers critical work remains to ensure all Americans can live up to their full potential.

5 Architecture

  • 1. Italy is full of historical buildings. And Europe holds a great history of philosophy from Greece until today. I read all those books and see these buildings and I think of where I stand when I design my architecture.
  • 2. I studied architecture in New York. So really I was very moved like everyone else to try to contribute something that has that resonance and profundity of it means to all of us.
  • 3. Trying to describe something musical is like dancing to architecture it's really difficult.
