I am not opposed to intelligence reform on its face but any changes should reflect the current context.

  • 1. As a precocious teen I dreamed of being Graham Greene. Well as it turned out I never wrote a great novel sadly and I never converted to Catholicism happily but I did do one thing he did. That is in middle age I moved to a seaside town and got into a right barney with the local powers-that-be.
  • 2. Everybody looks like clones and the only people you notice are my age. I don't notice anybody unless they look great and every now and again they do and they are usually 70.
  • 3. The chief role of the universities is to prolong adolescence into middle age at which point early retirement ensures that we lack the means or the will to enforce significant change.

2 Amazing

  • 1. Having my first number one single and being able to travel to places I've never been before has been amazing. The tour was also fantastic. There are so many things which I've experienced this year which I never even dreamed of.
  • 2. The body can do amazing things in a situation when it is really called for.
  • 3. I got fitter when I did 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.' I wore a loincloth – that's a lot of motivation!

3 Anger

  • 1. Well all comedy starts with anger. You get angry and its never for a good reason right? You know its not a good reason. And then you try and work it from there.
  • 2. When you learn that a truth is a lie anger follows.
  • 3. A lot of my humor does come from anger. It's like you're not gonna pull one over on me – which is pretty much my motto anyways.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. Experts on romance say for a happy marriage there has to be more than a passionate love. For a lasting union they insist there must be a genuine liking for each other. Which in my book is a good definition for friendship.
  • 2. I am so excited this year getting to play the 85th Anniversary Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Everyone knows on Thanksgiving morning to get up turn on the TV and watch the parade so to be an actual participant is going to be fun and I'm looking forward to it. I am gonna have to put on my deer hunting gear though to stay warm!
  • 3. We had a relationship that lasted 44 years. Herbert and I lived together 10 years before we were married. He always gave me a little heart for whatever anniversary.

5 Architecture

  • 1. If you examine this I think that you will find that it's the mechanics of Japanese architecture that have been thought of as the direct influence upon our architecture.
  • 2. My buildings will be my legacy… they will speak for me long after I'm gone.
  • 3. Switzerland is a small steep country much more up and down than sideways and is all stuck over with large brown hotels built on the cuckoo clock style of architecture.
