The fact that we are I don't know how many millions of people yet communication complete communication is completely impossible between two of those people is to me one of the biggest tragic themes in the world.

People break down after a couple of hours. All the defenses go down and there's a kind of communication that if I spent 20 years in a living room with one of these people I would never never know as much about them as I do in that one day.

It's about communication. It's about honesty. It's about treating people in the organization as deserving to know the facts. You don't try to give them half the story. You don't try to hide the story. You treat them as – as true equals and you communicate and you communicate and communicate.

Strange about parents. We have such easy access to them and such daunting problems of communication.

2 Amazing

  • 1. It was really amazing. I mean he'd never mentioned that he played in the symphony like serious violin playing not fiddle playing. And he just blew us away.
  • 2. I've had an amazing professional life personal life but at 64 to have a son who gives us that much love and enjoyment is wow!
  • 3. Seeing yourself in print is such an amazing concept: you can get so much attention without having to actually show up somewhere… You don't have to dress up for instance and you can't hear them boo you right away.

3 Anger

  • 1. I really believe that all of us have a lot of darkness in our souls. Anger rage fear sadness. I don't think that's only reserved for people who have horrible upbringings. I think it really exists and is part of the human condition. I think in the course of your life you figure out ways to deal with that.
  • 2. I've chosen my wedding ring large and heavy to continue forever. But exactly because of that all the time that Dave and I have an argument I feel it like handcuffs and on anger time I throw it in a basket. Poor Dave he bought me three wedding rings already!
  • 3. For me music is a vehicle to bring our pain to the surface getting it back to that humble and tender spot where with luck it can lose its anger and become compassion again.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. The bonds of matrimony are like any other bonds – they mature slowly.
  • 2. I think you have to be willing to take a bullet for somebody if you're going to stand up there take your vows and be married to them for the rest of your life.
  • 3. Marriage is a coming together for better or for worse hopefully enduring and intimate to the degree of being sacred.

5 Architecture

  • 1. Architecture is about public space held by buildings.
  • 2. Architecture doesn't come from theory. You don't think your way through a building.
  • 3. The aesthetic of architecture has to be rooted in a broader idea about human activities like walking relaxing and communicating. Architecture thinks about how these activities can be given added value.
