The fact that we are I don't know how many millions of people yet communication complete communication is completely impossible between two of those people is to me one of the biggest tragic themes in the world.

People break down after a couple of hours. All the defenses go down and there's a kind of communication that if I spent 20 years in a living room with one of these people I would never never know as much about them as I do in that one day.

It's about communication. It's about honesty. It's about treating people in the organization as deserving to know the facts. You don't try to give them half the story. You don't try to hide the story. You treat them as – as true equals and you communicate and you communicate and communicate.

Strange about parents. We have such easy access to them and such daunting problems of communication.

1 Age

  • 1. I don't know why people are so obsessed with age anyway. I mean 90 is the new 70 70 is the new 50 and 50 is the new 40 so the whole act-your-age thing? Only up to a point.
  • 2. You end up as you deserve. In old age you must put up with the face the friends the health and the children you have earned.
  • 3. We live in an age of mediocrity.

2 Amazing

  • 1. If my kids are doing well then my life is going pretty well. And if my kids aren't doing well it doesn't matter how the other elements of my life are. It's kind of amazing to have a context like that. This is really wonderful.
  • 2. Luckily I have some amazing friends.
  • 3. That's an amazing feeling to walk onstage and you're not thinking about anything you're not thinking about your lines or what you're supposed to do – your body your brain knows so there's freedom. There's not fear there's not nerves.

3 Anger

  • 1. When anger rushes unrestrained to action like a hot steed it stumbles on its way. The man of thought strikes deepest and strikes safely.

  • 3. I have not lost faith in God. I have moments of anger and protest. Sometimes I've been closer to him for that reason.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. Marriage is a coming together for better or for worse hopefully enduring and intimate to the degree of being sacred.
  • 2. And this year is going to be the 25th anniversary of the 17-0 team the only undefeated season.
  • 3. We are not the same persons this year as last nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we changing continue to love a changed person.

5 Architecture

  • 1. What's fascinating about D.C. the exteriors are these elaborate structures this gorgeous architecture and beautiful stonework and then you go inside and it's crap-looking – apart from the White House which is beautiful.
  • 2. Architecture has recorded the great ideas of the human race. Not only every religious symbol but every human thought has its page in that vast book.
  • 3. I left science then I went into art but I approach things very analytically. I choose to pursue both art and architecture as completely separate fields rather than merging them.
