These days too many of us seem inclined to cover our ears close our eyes and blindly follow the most narrow conservative tenets of religion or else seek comfort in the ancient traditions of New Age ritual.

There is no age height or weight requirement to skate. It is good exercise no matter what your age is. If you want to be competitive most start young. But I practice with many adult competitors.

1 Age

  • 1. I'm 20 years old. I like to party as much as anyone my age. Going clubbing is my way of relaxing or releasing a lot of stress. I don't feel that I should have to justify that part of my life. I don't know that I'm necessarily an addict.
  • 2. As human beings our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.

2 Amazing

  • 2. I cannot stress enough that the answer to life's questions is often in people's faces. Try putting your iPhones down once in a while and look in people's faces. People's faces will tell you amazing things. Like if they are angry or nauseous or asleep.
  • 3. I have an amazing relationship with my wife but sometimes there are arguments. It happens.

3 Anger

  • 1. I think that all the anger and cynicism comes from suppressing things that we always wanted.
  • 2. You must never be satisfied with losing. You must get angry terribly angry about losing. But the mark of the good loser is that he takes his anger out on himself and not his victorious opponents or on his teammates.
  • 3. Good satire comes from anger. It comes from a sense of injustice that there are wrongs in the world that need to be fixed. And what better place to get that well of venom and outrage boiling than a newsroom because you're on the front lines.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. Marriage is an act of will that signifies and involves a mutual gift which unites the spouses and binds them to their eventual souls with whom they make up a sole family – a domestic church.
  • 2. I feel there should have been some recognition of the Spice Girls at this year's 25th anniversary. We flew the flag for Britain around the globe in the 1990s and we achieved a hell of a lot.

5 Architecture

  • 1. Post-Modernism was a reaction against Modernism. It came quite early to music and literature and a little later to architecture. And I think it's still coming to computer science.
  • 2. Make big plans aim high in hope and work remembering that a noble logical diagram once recorded will not die.
  • 3. I see music as fluid architecture.
