The debates of that great assembly are frequently vague and perplexed seeming to be dragged rather than to march to the intended goal. Something of this sort must I think always happen in public democratic assemblies.
Every man of action has a strong dose of egoism pride hardness and cunning. But all those things will be regarded as high qualities if he can make them the means to achieve great ends.
