1 Age

2 Amazing

3 Anger

  • 2. I guess because I had such a horrible life growing up going from place to place not knowing what I was gonna do and ending up being homeless there was a lot of pain and a lot of anger that was coming out through my guitar playing.
  • 3. What influenced me was Tori Amos who was unapologetic about expressing anger through music and Sinead O'Connor. Those two in particular were really moving for me and very inspiring before I wrote 'Jagged Little Pill.'

4 Anniversary

  • 1. We can't forget what happened on May 4th 1970 when four students gave up their lives because they had the American constitutional right of peaceful protest. They gave up their lives. And to sing that song in that spot on that anniversary was very emotional for us.
  • 2. So I think you have to marry for the right reasons and marry the right person.
  • 3. Each year on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth America has the opportunity to reflect on our nation's progress towards the realization of his dream.

5 Architecture

  • 1. To create architecture is to put in order. Put what in order? Function and objects.
  • 2. If you're into architecture and you're from the West everything is hors d'oeuvres for working to rebuild the Temple. Ultimately you're led there. You can't escape it.
  • 3. I like things that are kind of eclectic when one thing doesn't go with another. That's why I love Rome. The town itself is that way. It's where Fascist architecture meets classic Renaissance where the ancient bangs up against the contemporary. It has a touch of everything. That's my style and that's what my work is about.
