Rather than turning away from the staggering scale and depth of misery caused by war we must strive to develop our capacity to empathize and feel the sufferings of others. 1 I am still profoundly troubled by the war in Nicaragua. The United States launched a covert war against another nation in violation of international law a war that was wrong and immoral.
