1 Age

  • 1. I try to write lyrics so that they won't age which sort of leaves you with the big subjects like death and love and sex and violence.
  • 2. I love physical kinds of comedy and getting down and dirty and doing stunts. When I was growing up I was always getting into fights with guys and usually punching out boys my age because I was a lot bigger and tougher. So I'm naturally accustomed to putting myself into the headspace of a girl who can take care of herself.

2 Amazing

  • 1. Most New Yorkers want to look amazing and they want you to understand that they look amazing but they also want you to stop staring at them.
  • 2. I think as a Canadian hockey player you go through it in your mind so many times being able to stand on that blue line and hear your national anthem play and being a gold medal champion you dream of that. And then to be able to accomplish that and actually win a gold medal and represent your country its an amazing feeling.
  • 3. People always think that if you eat anything as a model it's amazing. I used to tease them and say you know I'm going to throw up afterwards.

3 Anger

  • 1. I suppose there's an anger in all of us. Some hidden rage that you keep at bay.
  • 2. Anger cannot be dishonest.
  • 3. I drank for about 25 years getting over the loss of my father and I took the anger out on myself. I did a good job at beating myself up at sometimes. I don't drink anymore but my alcoholic head occasionally says different. 'Nil By Mouth' was a love letter to my father because I needed to resolve some issues in order to be able to forgive him.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. More marriages might survive if the partners realized that sometimes the better comes after the worse.
  • 2. Marriage is an alliance entered into by a man who can't sleep with the window shut and a woman who can't sleep with the window open.
  • 3. Love grows more tremendously full swift poignant as the years multiply.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I could be happy doing something like architecture. It would involve another couple of years of graduate school but that's what I studied in college. That's what I always wanted to do.
  • 2. To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history but to articulate it.
  • 3. At a certain point I just put the building and the art impulse together. I decided that building was a legitimate way to make sculpture.
