I consider it useless and tedious to represent what exists because nothing that exists satisfies me. Nature is ugly and I prefer the monsters of my fancy to what is positively trivial.
An artist must possess Nature. He must identify himself with her rhythm by efforts that will prepare the mastery which will later enable him to express himself in his own language.
