1 Age

  • 1. I saw no African people in the printed and illustrated Sunday school lessons. I began to suspect at this early age that someone had distorted the image of my people. My long search for the true history of African people the world over began.
  • 2. We tend to think of age only in time but I don't think it has much to do with time at all there's a whole load of other things. I've met 16-year-olds who are old and 90-year-olds who are young.
  • 3. I began to understand my sensations to know what I wanted at around the age of forty – but only vaguely.

2 Amazing

  • 1. Well there are better cartoonists now than there ever have been. I firmly believe that. There's some amazing work being done.
  • 2. I don't know how many thoughts we have a second but it's quite an amazing number and just to pin down the appropriate sequence of those all you really need is a pencil and a piece of paper.
  • 3. I'm an actor so sometimes there are moments where I think about everything that's happening and I want to cry. I'm doing what I love and I will be doing it for a very very long time – and it's amazing. A lot of people don't get to do that.

3 Anger

  • 1. Forgiveness is the economy of the heart… forgiveness saves the expense of anger the cost of hatred the waste of spirits.
  • 2. The great thing about celebrity culture is that they can't seem to stop themselves from displaying their ridiculous behaviour. I feel it's my job as a serious investigative journalist to witness all kinds of behaviour and then report back to the audience through the prism of my own anger and bitterness.
  • 3. The fear really hits you. That's what you feel first. And then it's the anger and frustration. Part of the problem is how little we understand about the ultimate betrayal of the body when it rebels against itself.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. See the 'On the Road' that came out in 1957 was censored. A lot of the honesty of it the bitter honesty is in the original scroll version that came out in 2007 on the 50-year anniversary. Back then there was so much post-Second World War fear that was imposed on everybody – 'You must live life this way' – and these guys were bored.
  • 2. Mr. Speaker I rise today to recognize the Peace Corps as it reached its 45th anniversary on March 1 2006.
  • 3. We had a relationship that lasted 44 years. Herbert and I lived together 10 years before we were married. He always gave me a little heart for whatever anniversary.

5 Architecture

  • 1. The Romans were not inventors of the supporting arch but its extended use in vaults and intersecting barrel shapes and domes is theirs.
  • 2. I'm drawn to furniture design as complete architecture on a minor scale.
  • 3. I don't know why I've always been so captivated by architecture.
