  • 1. This is the first age that's ever paid much attention to the future which is a little ironic since we may not have one.
  • 2. I'm a pretty big dork. It's crazy. I'm one of those people who grew up with all kinds of musicals but I was right at that age where 'Rent' was a big deal for me and for my friends.

2 Amazing

  • 1. Children are amazing and while I go to places like Princeton and Harvard and Yale and of course I teach at Columbia NYU and that's nice and I love students but the most fun of all are the real little ones the young ones.
  • 2. What turns me on is to walk into a sold-out venue. The audiences are so much the same as they were in the '60s. It's just an amazing thing. I can't explain it but I hope it never stops.
  • 3. I love Benny Hill. He one of my favourites of aaall time. Like the way Benny did it he was just amazing. Just seeing how he put songs together and comedy and the timing and the sketches. He was way ahead of his time.

3 Anger

  • 1. Holding on to anger resentment and hurt only gives you tense muscles a headache and a sore jaw from clenching your teeth. Forgiveness gives you back the laughter and the lightness in your life.
  • 2. Anger becomes limiting restricting. You can't see through it. While anger is there look at that too. But after a while you have to look at something else.
  • 3. The anger of lovers renews their love.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. The chances of a reunion now are less likely. I was thinking of having a 40th anniversary of the band but now they are really another band so it's all a bit weird.
  • 2. But to sustain a marriage for 50 years you have to get real a little bit and find someone who is understanding and who you can grow with. My mom always says 'Marry the man who loves you a millimeter more.'
  • 3. Since I wrote to you last we have got our chapel beautifully lighted with gas and have had our anniversary.

5 Architecture

  • 1. The intellectual force of the West is still dominant but other cultures are getting stronger. I expect that we will develop a new way of thinking in architecture and urban planning and that less will be based on our models.
  • 2. But I feel truly wowed by the architecture and the meaning of the architecture if you get lost in it and think about the man hours in the smallest little chapel and the love involved. God it's fantastic.
  • 3. There will never be great architects or great architecture without great patrons.
