The fact that we are I don't know how many millions of people yet communication complete communication is completely impossible between two of those people is to me one of the biggest tragic themes in the world.

People break down after a couple of hours. All the defenses go down and there's a kind of communication that if I spent 20 years in a living room with one of these people I would never never know as much about them as I do in that one day.

It's about communication. It's about honesty. It's about treating people in the organization as deserving to know the facts. You don't try to give them half the story. You don't try to hide the story. You treat them as – as true equals and you communicate and you communicate and communicate.

Strange about parents. We have such easy access to them and such daunting problems of communication.

  • 1. I was always obsessed with being famous. I had Marilyn Monroe paper dolls as a child and I was always obsessed with her. I've just been really driven in that direction and none of my friends were. So I don't know what put that bug in me at a young age.
  • 2. From an early age I didn't buy into the value systems of working hard in a nine-to-five job. I thought creativity friendship and loyalty and pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable was much more interesting.
  • 3. If you live to be one hundred you've got it made. Very few people die past that age.

2 Amazing

  • 1. My wife a schoolteacher very disciplined. If you think I'm tough trust me and wait till you see when the children are on the naughty step. It's hilarious. So we decided that I'm going to work like a donkey and provide amazing support for the family.
  • 2. If I can inspire people by showing that following a dream by working hard and being determined is possible it's amazing.
  • 3. Why is Cloud 9 so amazing? What is wrong with Cloud 8? That joke came off the top of my head and the top of my head ain't funny!

3 Anger

  • 1. Acting in anger and hatred throughout my life I frequently precipitated what I feared most the loss of friendships and the need to rely upon the very people I'd abused.
  • 2. Indulge not thyself in the passion of anger it is whetting a sword to wound thine own breast or murder thy friend.
  • 3. There are people still in the Republican Party that I believe practice the communication of anger of disappointment of regret of pain of sorrow of suffering. That's not what the American people want to hear.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. I didn't make my first solo record until 1981 so I don't have any 60's or 70's recordings but I am working on a large boxed set called DUST to be released next year the 20th anniversary of my first solo record.
  • 2. And currently there are four to five new works in the pipeline for upcoming celebrations such as the Sydney 2000 Olympics Australian Federation my 50th Birthday and Sydney Dance Company's 25th Anniversary.
  • 3. See the 'On the Road' that came out in 1957 was censored. A lot of the honesty of it the bitter honesty is in the original scroll version that came out in 2007 on the 50-year anniversary. Back then there was so much post-Second World War fear that was imposed on everybody – 'You must live life this way' – and these guys were bored.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I search for surprise in my architecture. A work of art should cause the emotion of newness.
  • 2. The greatest advances of civilization whether in architecture or painting in science and literature in industry or agriculture have never come from centralized government.
  • 3. It seems a fantastic paradox but it is nevertheless a most important truth that no architecture can be truly noble which is not imperfect.
