I'm hosting weekend retreats all over America. It is like a 24-hour slumber party for moms. We laugh eat play games get massages win prizes talk about parenting and even cry a bit.

I barely have time for my own children. To adopt more children and not have time for them that would be poor parenting on my part.

Very often when you see families it's all perfect and neat and parenting isn't like that. You do have constant negotiations. Things are ever developing and ever changing and you constantly have to evaluate how you deal with your kids.

We're living in a time when parenting is not at all mirroring the way I was parented. For me I just followed my parents around on their errands when they were busy on the phone I was quiet. It's a different kettle of fish these days: They run the house and you listen to their music and you go to their appointments.

1 Age

  • 1. Age puzzles me. I thought it was a quiet time. My seventies were interesting and fairly serene but my eighties are passionate. I grow more intense as I age.
  • 2. If you read back in the Bible the letter of the apostle Paul to the church of Thessalonia he said that in the latter days before the end of the age that the Earth would be caught up in what he called the birth pangs of a new order.
  • 3. I never had little brothers so I was totally not used to hearing a lot of cussing at a young age! I learned what 'pull my finger' meant the hard way.

2 Amazing

  • 1. I had an amazing experience working with great people. I had a great family a typical family with drama in certain areas and that's pretty much everywhere in everyone's life.
  • 2. I was given such a great gift. It's a miracle that never stops amazing me and reminding me to give thanks every day. Having a wife and daughter gives me a lot more purpose. I was much more selfish before but now I think about what kind of role model I'll be. I just want to be a better man.
  • 3. I really would love to do a piece like Julia Roberts or Charlize Theron in 'Erin Brockovich' or 'North Country.' They were both so amazing and so inspiring. I would love to touch someone in the way their performances touched me.

3 Anger

  • 1. The only justice is to follow the sincere intuition of the soul angry or gentle. Anger is just and pity is just but judgement is never just.
  • 2. Wise anger is like fire from a flint: there is great ado to get it out and when it does come it is out again immediately.
  • 3. There was never an angry man that thought his anger unjust.

4 Anniversary

  • 2. We had a relationship that lasted 44 years. Herbert and I lived together 10 years before we were married. He always gave me a little heart for whatever anniversary.
  • 3. Marriage is a coming together for better or for worse hopefully enduring and intimate to the degree of being sacred.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I try to give people a different way of looking at their surroundings. That's art to me.
  • 2. What has happened to architecture since the second world war that the only passers-by who can contemplate it without pain are those equipped with a white stick and a dog?
  • 3. I call architecture frozen music.
