The fact that we are I don't know how many millions of people yet communication complete communication is completely impossible between two of those people is to me one of the biggest tragic themes in the world.

People break down after a couple of hours. All the defenses go down and there's a kind of communication that if I spent 20 years in a living room with one of these people I would never never know as much about them as I do in that one day.

It's about communication. It's about honesty. It's about treating people in the organization as deserving to know the facts. You don't try to give them half the story. You don't try to hide the story. You treat them as – as true equals and you communicate and you communicate and communicate.

Strange about parents. We have such easy access to them and such daunting problems of communication.

  • 1. I've got volumes on how not to behave. I've got more information now than a guy should have at my age.
  • 2. I love my kids and the moments I have with them and it's kind of weird it's such an age old cliche but the way that my sons the way they make me feel when I look at them the way they say things no one else would probably react to them but it's a special thing for me.
  • 3. Brain power improves by brain use just as our bodily strength grows with exercise. And there is no doubt that a large proportion of the female population from school days to late middle age now have very complicated lives indeed.

2 Amazing

  • 1. That show 'The Amazing Race' – is that about white people?
  • 2. I'm definitely the most tech-savvy in my family. My wife wouldn't have a clue as far as getting the computer working. All of my kids it's amazing. Like everybody's kids they're more savvy than I am probably.
  • 3. I am also hugely excited to then be competing to defend my three Paralympic titles at the Paralympic Games. I believe we will see some amazing times posted and I am very much looking forward to what will be an incredible Olympics and Paralympics in London.

3 Anger

  • 1. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't angry some days. But I really have worked hard to put a lot of the anger and disappointment in the past.
  • 2. There is an element of anger among women who've been raped. There's certainly a major element of humiliation. But it really does seem like a medical condition of shock and horror.
  • 3. That's the conundrum of cartoon stripping as opposed to political cartoons. When your anger is the driving force of your drawing hand failure follows. The anger is OK but it has to serve the interests of the heart frankly.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. I think you have to be willing to take a bullet for somebody if you're going to stand up there take your vows and be married to them for the rest of your life.
  • 2. Mom and Dad were married 64 years. And if you wondered what their secret was you could have asked the local florist – because every day Dad gave Mom a rose which he put on her bedside table. That's how she found out what happened on the day my father died – she went looking for him because that morning there was no rose.
  • 3. But to sustain a marriage for 50 years you have to get real a little bit and find someone who is understanding and who you can grow with. My mom always says 'Marry the man who loves you a millimeter more.'

5 Architecture

  • 1. Architecture should speak of its time and place but yearn for timelessness.
  • 2. We should concentrate our work not only to a separated housing problem but housing involved in our daily work and all the other functions of the city.
  • 3. Liquid architecture. It's like jazz – you improvise you work together you play off each other you make something they make something. And I think it's a way of – for me it's a way of trying to understand the city and what might happen in the city.
