The fact that we are I don't know how many millions of people yet communication complete communication is completely impossible between two of those people is to me one of the biggest tragic themes in the world.

People break down after a couple of hours. All the defenses go down and there's a kind of communication that if I spent 20 years in a living room with one of these people I would never never know as much about them as I do in that one day.

It's about communication. It's about honesty. It's about treating people in the organization as deserving to know the facts. You don't try to give them half the story. You don't try to hide the story. You treat them as – as true equals and you communicate and you communicate and communicate.

Strange about parents. We have such easy access to them and such daunting problems of communication.

1 Age

  • 1. Age is just a number. It's totally irrelevant unless of course you happen to be a bottle of wine.
  • 2. We tend to think of age only in time but I don't think it has much to do with time at all there's a whole load of other things. I've met 16-year-olds who are old and 90-year-olds who are young.
  • 3. All my early school reports from the age of 5 were 'Daniel must learn not to distract others.'

2 Amazing

  • 1. Trophies and medals have never meant much to me. I've had amazing experiences which let you feel like you've accomplished something.
  • 2. Brains don't really smell but what's amazing about the brain is that it's almost like scrambled eggs or soft tofu almost like a gel. The brain controls so much of what we do but you could put your finger right through it.
  • 3. If my kids are doing well then my life is going pretty well. And if my kids aren't doing well it doesn't matter how the other elements of my life are. It's kind of amazing to have a context like that. This is really wonderful.

3 Anger

  • 2. I grew up looking at my father as to how to behave. In watching him I grasped so many things. His own temperament was of a calm person. He was very composed and I never saw anger in him. To me that was fascinating.

  • 1. This year as we celebrate the 230th anniversary of America's independence please remember the symbols that are sacred to this country. Fly Old Glory high and show your respect and admiration for this great nation and the values we hold dear.
  • 2. A wedding anniversary is the celebration of love trust partnership tolerance and tenacity. The order varies for any given year.
  • 3. Why does a woman work ten years to change a man's habits and then complain that he's not the man she married?

5 Architecture

  • 1. The details are the very source of expression in architecture. But we are caught in a vice between art and the bottom line.
  • 2. At this present time matter is still the best way to think of architecture but I'm not so sure for very long. The computer is radicalizing the way we think about our world.
  • 3. Architecture is a science arising out of many other sciences and adorned with much and varied learning by the help of which a judgment is formed of those works which are the result of other arts.
