When I celebrated my bar mitzvah there was no cake. Today there is no such thing as a bar mitzvah in the United States without a special cake. It can be even more complicated and expensive than a wedding cake because bar-mitzvah cakes are often based on a particular theme.

1 Age

2 Amazing

  • 2. When you're doing the traditional musicals singing songs that are 40 and 50 years old you realize there's a reason why those musicals are hits. These are amazing songs!
  • 3. And then we watched an amazing number of movies from the late '60s and '70s which is my favorite time and we studied their camera movements their stocks the way they lit stuff the colors they used.

3 Anger

  • 1. Anger makes dull men witty but it keeps them poor.
  • 2. President Obama clearly cannot run on his record. All he's offering is more of the same. That's not good. Look at the economy. It's stagnating. And so what they're now going to try and do is bring this campaign down to little things distractions distortions smear fear anger frustration.
  • 3. Man should forget his anger before he lies down to sleep.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. I did that Dior Couture 60th anniversary show in July. It took so long to get ready I think I would have rather been watching.
  • 2. We can't forget what happened on May 4th 1970 when four students gave up their lives because they had the American constitutional right of peaceful protest. They gave up their lives. And to sing that song in that spot on that anniversary was very emotional for us.
  • 3. Strike an average between what a woman thinks of her husband a month before she marries him and what she thinks of him a year afterward and you will have the truth about him.

5 Architecture

  • 1. It is impossible as impossible as to raise the dead to restore anything that has ever been great or beautiful in architecture. That which I have insisted upon as the life of the whole that spirit which is given only by the hand and eye of the workman can never be recalled.
  • 2. There will never be great architects or great architecture without great patrons.
  • 3. The work of art shows people new directions and thinks of the future. The house thinks of the present.
