My Christmas present to myself each year is to see how much air travel can open up the world and take me to places as far from sheltered California and Japan as possible.
I think it's important to travel around in order to get a notion of what's going on to find out what people are think about. I enjoy talking on campuses most because people are more informed and discussion is generally livelier.

I intend to travel to Okinawa and to visit with Okinawa officials and the citizens of Okinawa at an early date. I will send my best analysis of that situation including the local attitudes back to Washington to the government there.
