I think I'm fascinated by the power of religion in our culture. Like a lot of secular liberal people I ignored it for a long time. Lately of course just from a political perspective it's impossible to ignore.

  • 1. If you love somebody you love them. My parents had a 25-year age gap between them and my mum was the breadwinner my dad the house husband. I'm a strong believer that a good relationship can work whatever the situation.
  • 2. I think the most exciting thing is that you expect people our age to know the music but actually a lot of kids know the music and if anything is left we have left really good music and that's the important part not the mop-tops or whatever.

2 Amazing

  • 1. We watch a lot of Discovery Channel shows like 'The Biggest Loser' and even 'Amazing Race.' You learn a lot about the world it's fun and nobody's interested in beating anybody down. And then the opposite: I'm a huge fan of 'Survivor.'
  • 2. Every time I sit in the audience and watch a show that I have been involved with it is such an amazing feeling to see all those people around me knowing they are actually watching and enjoying something I have written.
  • 3. It's amazing how much trouble you can get in when you don't have anything else to do.

3 Anger

  • 1. Being told about the effects of climate change is an appeal to our reason and to our desire to bring about change. But to see that Africans are the hardest hit by climate change even though they generate almost no greenhouse gas is a glaring injustice which also triggers anger and outrage over those who seek to ignore it.
  • 2. One should not lose one's temper unless one is certain of getting more and more angry to the end.
  • 3. The one who cannot restrain their anger will wish undone what their temper and irritation prompted them to do.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. We can't forget what happened on May 4th 1970 when four students gave up their lives because they had the American constitutional right of peaceful protest. They gave up their lives. And to sing that song in that spot on that anniversary was very emotional for us.
  • 2. My last trip to New Orleans was for the fifth anniversary of Katrina and I had the awesome opportunity to bring my family down. We all worked on a house together and met some of the families.
  • 3. Love grows more tremendously full swift poignant as the years multiply.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I was going to be an architect. I graduated with a degree in architecture and I had a scholarship to go back to Princeton and get my Masters in architecture. I'd done theatricals in college but I'd done them because it was fun.
  • 2. The dialogue of architecture has been centered too long around the idea of truth.
  • 3. First there is the bare beauty of the logs themselves with their long lines and firm curves. Then there is the open charm felt of the structural features which are not hidden under plaster and ornament but are clearly revealed a charm felt in Japanese architecture.
