I think I'm fascinated by the power of religion in our culture. Like a lot of secular liberal people I ignored it for a long time. Lately of course just from a political perspective it's impossible to ignore.

  • 1. Never say never but the thought of electively cutting oneself is beyond my grasp and I also object to it politically. Denying the lines on our faces makes a comment about age and wisdom I don't care to make.
  • 2. High expectations weren't nurtured in my neck of nowhere back then – children weren't fawned over from an early age as 'gifted' and groomed for a prizewinning future self-esteem was considered something you had to pick from the garden yourself.

2 Amazing

  • 1. Sayles could pull a performance out of a dog. I'm serious. He was just amazing. The world could fall apart and he remained on neutral.
  • 2. Everything that has happened to me has been amazing and surprising.
  • 3. When you're a stay-at-home mother you have to pretend it's really boring but it's not. It's enriching and fulfilling and an amazing experience. And then when you're a working mother you have to pretend that you feel guilty all day long.

3 Anger

4 Anniversary

  • 1. I didn't make my first solo record until 1981 so I don't have any 60's or 70's recordings but I am working on a large boxed set called DUST to be released next year the 20th anniversary of my first solo record.

  • 3. I've been sober for two-and-a-half years My children are happy. In August my wife and I will celebrate our fifteenth wedding anniversary. My band is back together with a sold-out tour.

5 Architecture

  • 1. Architecture tends to consume everything else it has become one's entire life.
