I am not opposed to intelligence reform on its face but any changes should reflect the current context.

  • 1. I was taught from a young age that many people would treat me as a second-class citizen because I was African-American and because I was female.

2 Amazing

  • 1. Since 'Idol' I've gotten used to having an amazing hair and make-up team around me so I'm starting to get picky. I know what I like now and I'm happy to say 'Could we maybe change that?' if I don't like something. I don't yell or anything but I think I could definitely start to act a little diva-ish when it comes to my look.
  • 2. I walked to Seward School first through fourth grade. It's just amazing to me now that we'd walk down 10th Avenue on Capitol Hill.
  • 3. There are a lot of people using technology that are playing to a click with backing vocals already stuck in there on some computerized thing that runs along in time to the show so they have these amazing vocals that are only partly the guys on stage producing them at the time.

3 Anger

  • 1. Don't get the impression that you arouse my anger. You see one can only be angry with those he respects.
  • 2. Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.
  • 3. It absolutely helped – to write the father in both 'Juicy' and 'Beasts ' I had to see the whole story from his point of view. All of a sudden I understood more of what my own father must be going through – the fear the frustration the anger… the hope that he'll leave a legacy.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. Actually the year anniversary of what you just heard my son Grahame and I are going to be in a play together and I'm acting for the first time in front of an audience that doesn't consist of a high school drama class.
  • 2. The London games mark the 24th anniversary of my winning two golds and setting the world record in the heptathlon. Someone is going to want it records are made to be broken – it's only a matter of time. I hope mine will outlive me.
  • 3. Last week the House of Representatives passed a resolution honoring the victims and heroes of September 11th. As we commemorate the anniversary of 9-11 we must also remember that the threat is still very real today.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I see the Beijing National Stadium as an architectural project. I accepted Herzog and De Meuron's invitation to collaborate on the design and our proposal won the competition. From beginning to end I stayed with the project. I am committed to fostering relationships between a city and its architecture.
  • 2. A great building must begin with the unmeasurable must go through measurable means when it is being designed and in the end must be unmeasurable.
  • 3. Today's developer is a poor substitute for the committed entrepreneur of the last century for whom the work of architecture represented a chance to celebrate the worth of his enterprise.
