I've come to recognize what I call my 'inside interests.' Telling stories. And helping people tell their stories is a sort of interpersonal gardening. My work at NBC News was to report the news but in hindsight I often tried to look for some insight to share that might spark a moment of recognition in a viewer.

I loathe gardening but I love gardens and I have two beautiful gardens. I can not bear gardening but I love gardens.

2 Amazing

3 Anger

  • 1. My dear brothers take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to become angry for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
  • 2. Anger and hate against one we love steels our hearts but contempt or pity leaves us silent and ashamed.
  • 3. One should not lose one's temper unless one is certain of getting more and more angry to the end.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. The 150th anniversary of Penn State will highlight what is important and good about this distinguished institution and the fine people and research that it produces.
  • 2. The bonds of matrimony are like any other bonds – they mature slowly.
  • 3. This anniversary serves to help remind the American people that in the wake of one of the greatest political scandals and misuse of power in our history as a nation scandal produced important reforms that served this nation well for two decades.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I don't know why I've always been so captivated by architecture.
  • 2. Any architectural project we do takes at least four or five years so increasingly there is a discrepancy between the acceleration of culture and the continuing slowness of architecture.
  • 3. When I'm in London Claridge's is a great favourite. I'm a big fan of art deco architecture and the rooms are extraordinary.
