1 Age

  • 1. Everyone takes pause at 40. It's the age you have to assess everything in your life. It's the fictitious marker that's always coming up when you're young. The world really does look at you to kind of have it together by 40 and be successful by 40. Whatever success means.
  • 2. People who refuse to rest honorably on their laurels when they reach retirement age seem very admirable to me.
  • 3. One crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name.

2 Amazing

  • 1. I am indeed amazed when I consider how weak my mind is and how prone to error.
  • 2. I was friends with all different people and all different groups. And that led me to being friends with a few people who didn't even go to my school. Now I have the most amazing collection of friends of all ethnic backgrounds and upbringing and financial backgrounds.

3 Anger

  • 1. I was a pretty angry kid and I got into military history largely as a way to vent my own anger. As I got older it narrowed down to a more specific focus on individual violence. I'm just trying to understand where it came from.

4 Anniversary

  • 1. I didn't make my first solo record until 1981 so I don't have any 60's or 70's recordings but I am working on a large boxed set called DUST to be released next year the 20th anniversary of my first solo record.
  • 2. The London games mark the 24th anniversary of my winning two golds and setting the world record in the heptathlon. Someone is going to want it records are made to be broken – it's only a matter of time. I hope mine will outlive me.
  • 3. It is a matter of public shame that while we have now commemorated our hundredth anniversary not one in every ten children attending Public schools throughout the colonies is acquainted with a single historical fact about Australia.

5 Architecture

  • 1. I don't believe in morality in architecture.
  • 2. In fact it will be very easy to climb the building because of its shape and architecture.
  • 3. My passion and great enjoyment for architecture and the reason the older I get the more I enjoy it is because I believe we – architects – can effect the quality of life of the people.
