1 Age

  • 1. The reason for the slow progress of the world seems to lie in a single fact. Every man is born under the yoke and grows up beneath the oppressions of his age.

2 Amazing

  • 2. Mom and Dad were married 64 years. And if you wondered what their secret was you could have asked the local florist – because every day Dad gave Mom a rose which he put on her bedside table. That's how she found out what happened on the day my father died – she went looking for him because that morning there was no rose.
  • 3. Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight dinner soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays I go Fridays.

5 Architecture

  • 1. The British political system and the whole clapped out Westminster architecture and the language that we use about politics it's completely unsustainable. You either decide to be part of that transition to do something different. Or you cling to old certainties.
  • 2. I see architecture not as Gropius did as a moral venture as truth but as invention in the same way that poetry or music or painting is invention.
  • 3. If you're into architecture and you're from the West everything is hors d'oeuvres for working to rebuild the Temple. Ultimately you're led there. You can't escape it.
